Jose Mourinho, on a visit to Lisbon University, has said: 'I am not taking any players from here' in his first public declaration on his Manchester United transfer plans.
The Portuguese coach was hinting that he would not make signings from his homeland’s top flight this summer.
However, Mourinho has already shown initial interest in recruiting Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Mario as part of a £200million spending spree, as Sportsmail revealed last week.
Chelsea and Liverpool are also among the clubs looking into signing the 23-year-old Portugal international.
Daley Blind has vowed to work hard for his future at Old Trafford amid speculation he could be sold this summer.
Blind, a near ever-present under Louis Van Gaal, is a popular member of United's squad but may struggle to fit into Jose Mourinho's plans as the new manager looks to add a centre half and midfielder.
The 26-year-old won't be giving up on United without a fight though.
Manchester United may have to play the waiting game in pursuit of Jordan Pickford, with Sunderland in no mood for selling.
Pickford has been watched by United scouts extensively over the past year and came in for more attention at the Toulon tournament as England triumphed for the first time since 1994.
But Sam Allardyce does not want the 22-year-old to leave Wearside and is ready to offer him a more prominent role next season.
