Amid Mino Raiola's tour of tirades this week, the agent of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic took aim at Pep Guardiola. Lacking balls and boring football were among his accusations.
There are a few things that Yaya Toure would like to get off his chest too, no doubt, after preparing for a game against Manchester United that he was not involved in.
While the 33-year-old went unused by Guardiola, Jose Mourinho opted for midfield muscle in Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini. As they threatened to get back into this tie in the second half, Manchester City may have wished they had their own bruiser.
In the end they managed to hang on, and did so without the player being paid £220,000 per week.
Toure was left out of City's 21-strong Champions League squad and is yet to play a single minute of Premier League football this season. His City contract is in its last year and his agent, Dimitri Seluk, said that his client could choose his next club in January.
Instead of bad-mouthing his manager, Toure simply tweeted on Wednesday: 'The hard work never stops.'
There is something about Toure that Guardiola does not like but he could have come in handy on Saturday when United looked like they were creeping back into this tie.
In the red of United, Mourinho's usual 4-2-3-1 set-up saw Pogba and Fellaini as their two men in the middle.
In the blue of City, Guardiola's 4-1-4-1 saw Fernandinho sit ahead of the defence, with David Silva in front and Kevin De Bruyne running the show.
In terms of midfield muscle, one Manchester team had the advantage over the other.
Of all Mourinho's midfielders, Pogba had averaged the greatest number of touches (110) and completed dribbles per 90 minutes (5) before derby day.
United captain Rooney could just have easily been talking about Fellaini, whose elbows are focused on more than his feet.
Fellaini had made the most tackles (11) in midfield for United before this match, more than Pogba (2), Ander Herrera (3), Juan Mata (5) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (1).
It did United no good in the end but Toure can only be wondering what this means for him for the rest of the season.
At full time, despite the resurgence of the United side, it was not enough to get a draw and City paints Manchester Blue until they meet next.
